Didn’t Vote? Consider This Next Time…

It’s been interesting to watch the reactions to last week’s Presidential election. Interesting and a little depressing…

I’ve been self-employed for over 20 years. During this time, I’ve had one philosophy when it comes to making decisions — make the best decision you can with the information and choices you have at the time.

While this started as something I did for business, it applies to everything in life. For example, when I was first starting my career and had to work a dayjob to pay the bills, it meant I could be a UPS guy or work at a print shop. Those were my two options, and although I wasn’t thrilled with either, I chose one and made it work for me.

I didn’t complain because something better, for example, something paying six-figures per year, with full benefits, a country club membership, a company car, and zero commute wasn’t available. And I wasn’t going to wait around, hoping my situation would change by itself. I made the best decision I could make with the options I had, knowing that if I kept doing this, the options I had would get better and better.

Then I’d get what I wanted.

This applies to where we are as a country — it applies to our political figures, the laws we have, and the type of communities we live in.

Getting what you want is a step-by-step process. All you need to do to make it happen is take the next right step.

But you can’t skip steps.

It’s easy to be apathetic or even nihilist about what’s going on in our country right now, especially when things aren’t going your way. It’s easy to “do nothing” and let other people make decisions for you. Or complain because the change we want isn’t happening as quickly as we’d like.

Go after what you want by using the options you have available now.
