How Easy Are You?

Today is Valentine’s Day. To celebrate, Yahoo! did something fun with its mail service — “Autocompose a Valentine.”

To use it, you simply hit a button within Yahoo! Mail and select from one of three options:

  1. Crazy In Love
  2. Friendly Love
  3. All Outta Love
And you get back something like this…

Dear babycakes,

You are my first and last thought of every day. You are also most thoughts in between. Without your love, I would shrivel up and blow away. Your intelligence and brilliant wit bring me to my knees. I see your face in every sunrise, sunset, and sundae.

Longingly, David

Or this…

To my brother from another mother,

I don’t know what I like better – your sense of humor or your sense of direction. I want you to know how much I appreciate that you’re always willing to split dessert with me. Go ahead and eat that chocolate. You deserve it. I wish you happy snuggles with the person of your choice.

Thanks for being you, David

Or this…

To someone who deserves more,

I was thinking about love and I couldn’t stop laughing. Hugs and kisses are for saps. As far as I’m concerned, candlelit dinners are a safety concern. Who needs a heart when a heart can be broken?

Never mind, David

What Can You Learn From This?

Make it easy on people. Make it easy to decide to buy, make it easy to pay you, and make what you sell easy to use.

When you send out a marketing message, take a minute to think about the recipient. He’s busy, he’s distracted, and he’s doing you a service by giving you any attention at all.

Make it fun for him.

Would you rather deal with a button-down, stiff shirt automaton or somebody who has a fun and approachable personality?

You customers feel the same way.

Now go be that person.
