Want To Make More Money? Find Some Rich People to Hang Out With

August 2, 2013

Today’s tip is about the absolute importance in surrounding yourself with people who are going to help you succeed.

Your Team Will Make You (or Break You)

While you are ultimately responsible for everything in your life and business, it certainly helps to be surrounded by quality people.

This one element could be a book, because it’s so important.  Your “team” can shortcut your learning time, be a support system for establishing good habits, and more.  It can also kill you…literally.

Here’s a great example:

Dr. Nicholas Christakis, a physician and professor of medical sociology at Harvard Medical School has been quoted as saying that friends affect each others’ perception of fatness. When somebody you’re close to becomes obese, obesity may not look so bad.

“You change your idea of what is an acceptable body type by looking at the people around you,” Dr. Christakis has said.

Friends show you what is possible and acceptable. Overweight friends, even if they’re not happy about being overweight, spread the attitude that being overweight is okay, since, by continuing to be overweight, they’re accepting of their situations. This makes it acceptable for those around them to have the same unhealthy behaviors.

Even though the kid I mentioned in my original post experienced may not have been comfortable and his mentor wasn’t perfect, if he continues to spend time in a positive environment (in this case, the gym), surrounded by people who have good habits when it comes to fitness, he’ll be more likely to see positive results than he would doing whatever he’s been doing up until this point.

Both Brian Tracy and Zig Ziglar have both said that you are the average of the five people you most associate with.  And this is on every level– from morality, to income, to relationship issues.

Think about it… How many single people hang out with married people and vice versa? Not many.

And how many broke ass people do you see who have actual friendships with wealthy people? Not many.

Action Steps:

Want to make more money? Find some rich people to hang out with.

Want to lose weight? Find some skinny people to hang out with?

Don’t know any rich people? Ask yourself, “Where do rich people hang out?” Or find somebody who has money and ask, “Where do you hang out?” Then go there…and talk to them about their thoughts on money.

Don’t know any skinny people? Hit the gym, the vegetarian restaurant, and other places skinny people hang out.
